Drawing roads
The Road tool turns a centreline into a road: edge lines, optional kerbs and verges, and a hatched carriageway.
To build a road
- Draw the road's centreline as a line, polyline or arc, and select it. Two centrelines that meet can be selected together.
- Open the Site row and click its Plan tab. That opens the site plan; the tab says roads, paths and boundaries drape onto the ground and follow it.
- Under Draw, click Road.
- Type the road width and press Enter.
Before you press Enter, Tab moves on to Kerb width, Verge width and Kerb return radius. The kerb and verge fields appear once they hold a value, and a kerb return radius of 6 m is used until you change it. A road with a kerb width gets kerb lines outside the edges, and one with a verge width gets verge strips with their own hatch.
Paths
Path, beside Road under Draw, is the same tool set to a footpath width. Select a centreline and click once to build a path 1.5 m wide, or type a width first and press Enter. Kerb, verge and the modifiers below work exactly as they do for a road.
Modifiers
- Hold Shift while you press Enter to remove the centreline once the road is built. Otherwise it is kept.
- Hold Ctrl to leave out the hatching.
Where a new road meets a road built with this tool, Linea trims the junction and rounds the kerbs. If a width is too large for a tight arc, the kerb or verge that couldn't be built is reported instead of being left out silently. The Road tool draws in plan.
