Linking a building slot to its site
A building slot can be linked to a site slot in its project. The site then shows around the building exactly as it does in the site slot, ground, sides and all, and every height in the building slot reads from the plot the building stands on.
Link a building slot
- In the building slot, open the Site row. In a building slot it lists the site slots in the project, and once linked, Switch to site takes you straight to the site slot.
- Click Link beside the site slot. A building slot links to one site slot at a time, so linking another replaces the first.
- Unlink takes the site away and puts every height back to 0 m.
Choose the plot
The site is shown around one plot. Under Context the select lists every plot that holds a building type from this slot, for example Plot 3 · Type A · FFL 45.200, and No context. A plot with a handed building type is marked handed, and the site is shown mirrored so it stays true to the house you are drawing. Until you choose, the context is the first plot that holds this slot's first building type. Double-click a plot in the site slot to open its building type here, with that plot already chosen. Your choice is kept with this drawing.
What is shown
The building you are drawing sits exactly where it stands on the chosen plot, and the site is placed around it. Within about 40 m you see the neighbouring building types as plain blocks at their own levels and heights, the roads, kerbs, paths, parking, bins, fences, hedges and trees, the chosen plot's boundary, the other plots and the site boundary, and in the 3D view the ground as the same solid the site slot draws, with its sides and base. The house on the chosen plot is not drawn again, since it is the one you are drawing. When more is in range than can be shown, the row says how many objects are left out.
The site is for looking at and drawing against. It cannot be selected or changed here, you can snap to its lines and corners in plan, and it is never saved or exported with the building slot. Change the site in the site slot and save it, and this slot follows: from the same window at once, or when you come back to it from another.
Heights
With a plot as context, the ground floor of the building slot sits at that plot's finished level, the same figure the site slot reads there. If the site has a real elevation datum the figure includes it, and in Great Britain it says AOD, so both slots print the same number for the same place. Every absolute height the slot shows adds it: spot levels, the height beside the cursor, the level heights on sections and elevations, and setting-out levels. Floors stay relative, so a first floor is still one storey above the ground floor. With no link, or with No context, ground is 0 m.
If something is missing
If the linked site slot is deleted, the row says so and ground goes back to 0 m. If no plot holds a building type from this slot yet, the row says that instead; place one on a plot in the site slot, as in Placing building types. If the site slot cannot be read, Retry tries again and what is on screen stays. If the plot you chose cannot be placed against this building, the select still names it and a line beneath says no site shows for it.
