Placing building types
In a project folder, a building slot holds your building types and a site slot places them on its plots. Edit a building type once, in its building slot, and every plot that uses it follows.
Building types
Every building in a building slot is a building type, and it is listed by the building's name, so name each one: hover its row in the outliner and click the pencil. A building with no name is listed as Unnamed building type. If another slot of the folder already has a building type with that name, the new name is held back and a message says where; Use anyway applies it. Copying a building makes a new building type. The slot keeps the building types' identities for you; there is nothing to set up.
Place a building type on a plot
- In the site slot, select a plot.
- In its panel, open Building type (a site slot always shows it, and it tells you when no building slot of the project holds a building type yet) and choose one under Place building type…. You can also right-click the plot and pick Place building type…, then the building type.
- The building type is centred on the plot and stands at the plot's level. The whole placement is one undo step.
One building type can stand on as many plots as you like, and a plot can hold more than one. If the building type reaches past the plot's boundary, a message names the plot; it is placed anyway. A placed building type is read-only in the site slot, so every change is made in its building slot.
Handed, rotate, remove
Each placement is listed in the plot's Building type section. Handed mirrors it about its own centre, so a pair of plots can be left and right hand versions of one building type. Rotate 90° turns it a quarter about the same centre. Remove takes it off the plot and out of the drawing.
Open the building type
Double-click a plot that holds a building type, or the house itself, or choose Open building type in the plot's panel, to go to the building slot it comes from.
When the building type changes
Save the building type in its building slot and every plot that uses it is redrawn. If the site slot is open in another window, it updates when you return to it, and says Building type updated.
When a building type is missing
If a building type is deleted from its building slot, or the slot itself is deleted, its plots keep their place and draw nothing. The plot's panel reads Building type missing, naming the building type and the slot, and offers Remove. Nothing is removed for you, and a building type that comes back is drawn again.
Ask Corb
Corb can list the building types on each plot and count the mix, for example how many plots use each building type and how many of those are handed.
