Linea keyboard shortcuts

Most of Linea's tools sit on a single key, and almost every gesture takes a typed value, so you can draw at real dimensions without stopping to open a panel. The same list is in the editor's tray, under Instructor.

Editor Navigation

  • Select next level in the active building

    Ctrl / ⌘+Arrow Up
  • Select previous level in the active building

Tools

  • Cancel, or return to Select on a second press

The first Escape cancels an in-progress gesture and keeps the tool armed; a second reaches Select.

    Esc
  • Toggle copy (Move, Rotate) or new volume (Extrude)

Tap again to turn it off. Clears when the gesture commits or cancels (Extrude instead keeps it on for as long as the tool is armed).

Massing

  • Switch to Massing workspace

    Alt+M
  • Switch to Build workspace

    Alt+B
  • Group the selection

Works on any selection, even a single object. Groups can nest.

    Ctrl / ⌘+G
  • Ungroup

With a single group selected. Its members keep their positions and become the new selection.

    Ctrl / ⌘+Shift+G

Selection

  • Copy the selected objects

The copied selection can be pasted into another level, project, or browser tab.

    Ctrl / ⌘+C
  • Cut the selected objects

Copies the selection to the clipboard, then removes it from this scene.

    Ctrl / ⌘+X
  • Paste and place copied objects

Carries a preview under the cursor. Click to place it, or press Escape to cancel.

    Ctrl / ⌘+V
  • Add an object to canvas multi-selection

Never removes. Works in Select mode on the 3D canvas and the 2D floor plan.

    Ctrl / ⌘+Left click
  • Toggle an object in canvas multi-selection

Adds it if not already selected, removes it if it is. In the scene graph, Shift-click instead selects the visible range like a file browser.

    Shift+Left click
  • Remove an object from canvas multi-selection

Always removes, whether marqueed or clicked directly: the one gesture that only ever subtracts.

    Shift+Ctrl / ⌘+Left click
  • Move the whole multi-selection

On the plan, with two or more objects selected: drag the selection (or its dashed box) to slide it, or click it to pick it up and place it with the next click. Type a length while carrying it to place it at an exact distance.

    Left click
  • Rotate a carried selection ±45° around its centre

While carrying a selection you have picked up to move.

    RorT
  • Clear the selection

Clicking empty space does the same.

    Esc

Direct Manipulation

  • Move the selected object

On the plan, drag a single selected object in Select mode. Snapping and guides are on by default. Click without dragging to pick it up and place it with the next click; type a length while carrying it to place it at an exact distance.

    Left click
  • Rotate the selected object under the cursor

Drag left or right in Select mode with a single object selected. Rotation snaps to 15° increments by default.

    Ctrl / ⌘+Right click
  • Rotate freely

Hold Shift during the drag to bypass the 15° rotation increment.

    Ctrl / ⌘+Shift+Right click
  • Nudge the selection one grid step

Select mode only. A hosted door/window/balcony/pier moves along its wall instead, so Up/Down do nothing for one. Shift multiplies the step ×10. Does not auto-repeat on a held key.

    Arrow keys
  • Nudge ten grid steps

    Shift+Arrow keys

Drawing Tools

  • Cycle snapping mode (Grid + snaps → Snaps only → Angles → Off), persists

Tap: press and release. Holding Shift is reserved for other gestures (e.g. pan).

    Shift
  • Rotate freely, bypassing the default 15° rotation snap

Hold while dragging a rotate handle or direct-rotation gesture.

    Shift
  • Cycle the grid / measurement step (0.5 → 0.25 → 0.1 → 0.05m)

Tap: press and release with no other key in between. Any chord (e.g. Ctrl+Z, or ⌘Z on a Mac) does not cycle. Not while Move, Rotate or Extrude is armed on Windows/Linux, where the tap toggles copy / new volume instead.

    Ctrl / ⌘
  • Shrink / grow the terrain sculpt brush radius

While the Sculpt Terrain tool is active: [ shrinks, ] grows. Hold to repeat.

    [or]

Item Placement

  • Force-place (skip the face-fit validity check)

Hold while placing. Does not bypass snapping.

    Alt

Camera

  • Pan camera

Moves in screen space, similar to dragging the camera view.

    WorAorSorD
  • Orbit camera

Drag with the middle mouse button.

    Middle click
  • Pan camera

Drag with Shift held and the middle mouse button, or hold Space while dragging with the left mouse button.

    Shift+Middle click
  • Open the context menu

A node under the pointer: select it and show its actions. Empty space: Zoom Extents, standard views, Perspective/Orthographic.

    Right click
  • Zoom extents, or zoom to the selection

With something selected it frames just that, including everything inside it: select a building and it frames the building, and a multi-selection frames all of it. With nothing selected, or when the selection has no geometry of its own, it frames the whole model.

    Shift+1

Typed Values

  • Type an exact value while you draw

Works on almost every gesture: drawing, massing, curving, offsetting, push/pulling, rotating, and every resize and dimension handle on every kind of object. A digit, a minus sign or a decimal point starts it.

    0-9
  • Apply the typed value and finish the step

Bare Enter with nothing typed commits wherever the gesture already is, so the keyboard alone can finish a gesture with no mouse release.

    Enter
  • Move to the next value

Where a gesture takes more than one: a massing rectangle is Width then Depth, a window is From start then Centre height. Shift+Tab steps back.

    Tab
  • Clear the typed value and keep drawing

Throws away what you typed and leaves the gesture exactly where it is. Press it again to abandon the gesture itself.

    Esc
  • Type an angle instead of a length

While drawing a wall or a fence, drawing a massing polygon, or rotating a selection. The suffix sends the number to the angle rather than the length, so the two can be typed in either order. Lengths follow the drawing's own units, so 6ft and 1200mm both parse.
