Tool groups on the Build toolbar

Some tiles on the Build toolbar open a group of related tools. Clicking the tile swaps the toolbar for that group's tiles, and nothing is armed until you pick one.

To use a group

  1. Click the group's tile: Roof features, Draft, Modify, Setting out or Structural items.
  2. Click a tile in the group to arm that tool. Hovering a tile explains the gesture. The group stays open while you work.
  3. Click Back, at the end of the group, to return to the ordinary toolbar. Back leaves whatever tool is armed as it is.

Each group lists only the tools that work in the view you are in, so the same group can offer fewer tiles in 2D than in Split.

What is in each

  • Roof features holds the roof accessories: chimney, dormer, cupola, skylight, fascia, soffit, barge, gutter, downspout, vents and solar panel. They are placed on a roof or an eave, so the group appears in 3D and Split.
  • Painting is a single tile rather than a group. It arms paint mode, and the materials themselves are in the Materials row; see Applying materials. It appears in 3D and Split.
  • Draft appears in Split and holds Line, Polyline, Rectangle, Circle, Arc, Revision cloud and Hatch. In 2D the same tools are on the left rail.
  • Modify holds Split (click a wall to cut it in two) and Align (click a reference face or line, then the item to bring flush); see Splitting walls and Aligning elements.
  • Setting out holds Reference line, Dimension, Spot level and Coordinate in plan. In 3D it holds Reference line, Axes and Dimension. See Dimensions and setting out.
  • Structural items holds Grid line, Column, Beam, Rafter, Pier, Foundation, Purlin and Truss; see Columns, beams and trusses. Grid line works in plan.

In 3D, the Setting out group's Reference line offsets a parallel line from an edge, or draws one from a point, and Axes sets a new origin and then the direction of the red axis.
